TRIP DETAILS

This is a fantastic trip to see much of our fantastic country whilst completing your very own adventure. There will be times your fitness will get a good work out, however anybody with a good  level of fitness will love and enjoy this unique adventure.  We will hike the four highest peaks across our four provinces. We will take time to immerse ourselves in the fantastic beauty, the deep history and the delightful people whom Ireland is world-famous for. This is a must-do trek for the adventurer in you. This is for people who want something different.  If you are up for the challenge, this truly is a must for a walking holiday in Ireland and indeed so much more – history, beauty and people.

While you are getting on with enjoying your trip and experiencing true parts of unchanged Ireland, Bespoke Treks will look after your every need from planning the detailed itinerary to providing transportation and guiding arrangements.

ITINERARY

  • Day 1: Climb Carrauntoohil Ireland highest mountain.
  • Day 2: Climb Mweelre the highest mountain in all of Connacht.
  • Day 3: A change of pace today so chill out or go for more adventures in Westport.
  • Day 4: Travel from the west coast to Carlingford on the east coast.
  • Day 5: Climb the highest mountain in Ulster Slieve Donard.
  • Day 6:  Today is a change of pace again you will find yourseleves immersed in the history, theculture and the local people to really you truly know our great country. 
  • Day 7: We travel to the ancient monastic city of Glendalough and onto the last of the 4 peaks. Lugnaquilla, the highest peak in Leinster.

Day 1:

We will collect you from your hotels, in the beautiful County Kerry town of Killarney at 8.00am. We will arrive in Cronin’s yard to begin our adventure. We will hike up Ireland’s highest mountain, Carrauntoohil 1038m high. We will decide the exact route depending on the weather and conditions however all are majestic going up and even better coming down. We will enjoy a well-deserved cup of tea when we arrive back at the finish before we travel on and arrive late evening  to our accommodation in Galway.  Approx. time walking 5h 30mins 

 

Day 2:

After a great Irish breakfast we travel to Mayo and climb the majestic Mweelrea 814m, the highest mountain in all of Connacht. This mountain is in the heart of the Wild Atlantic Way and we will hike beside Killary harbour one of only two fjords in Ireland. Just past the fjord to the South we will have some of Ireland iconic mountains in perfect view like the Mammturks and Twelve Bens. From our summit looking East we will see many stunning Glaciated valleys with multiple shades of green and brown constantly changing and always beautiful and the Sheeffry hills.  Looking north we will see the iconic Croagh Patrick and on into clew bay and on to Achill island. Then looking west it’s the Atlantic and the stunning islands of Inisbofin and Inishturk. Once we get back down we will travel the short distance for tonight’s stay in Ireland’s favourite town Westport.  http://www.westporttourism.com/

 

Day 3: 

This is an optional rest day in Westport.   However you may want to experience the world-renowned Greenway Cycle, kayak around the islands of Clew Bay, or maybe climb up Ireland’s holiest mountain Croagh Patrick with its church on top and unparalleled views of Clew Bay and its 365 islands. You can stroll around Westport and do some souvenir shopping. Why not have a lazy day it’s your decision. 

 

Day 4: 

Today we travel to the East coast and our next overnight stop, the charming little village of Carlingford co. Louth.  We have some great stops along the way and you will enjoy crossing Ireland at your leisure and taking in the ever-changing views. We will travel through six more of the thirty two counties of all Ireland. We will also cross the Shannon and at 361kms long it’s Ireland’s biggest river. Day 5:

After breakfast we head for the Mourne Mountains and take the short trip on the ferry, across Irelands other Fjord, Carlingford lough to enter into the historical county of Down. Our Third of the Four Peaks today is Slieve Donard in co. Down. This is a stunning Mountain that overlooks most of Northern Ireland. On a good day, we can see the Dublin Mountains, Scotland and the Isle of Man. At 850m this is Ulster’s highest mountain and our 3rd peak of our trip. On the summit are the remains of two ancient burial cairns, one of which is the remains of the highest known passage tomb in Ireland. In Irish mythology the mountain was associated with the mythical figures Boirche and Slángha. It was later associated with, and named after, Saint Donard, who was said to have made the summit his hermitage  We  will return and stay in Carlingford again to enjoy good food and great craic.

 

Day 6: 

This is a true taste of our history and our culture. Today we will visit the world-renowned Newgrange exhibition centre and ancient passage grave (at 3200 years B.C. much older than the Pyramids of Egypt). http://www.worldheritageireland.ie/bru-na-boinne/built-heritage/newgrangeThen we continue to the ancient site of the Kings of Ireland “Tara” https://mythicalireland.com/ancient-sites/the-hill-of-tara-teamhair/.Finally we will stay in the very quaint village of Killmessan which has the award-winning pub Fergies. Here we will enjoy a good fire, a great pint and some more craic.

 

Day 7:

Today we finish our 4 peaks challenge and our tour will come to an end in Dublin city centre. We will climb Lugnaquilla at 925m, which is Ireland’s highest peak outside of County Kerry.  We won’t use the tourist route but we will take the beautiful glaciated valley route of the Fraughan Glen and will return by the small but stunning Art’s Lough. We will get to walk in the stunning Wicklow mountains heartland. We will start in the longest glaciated valley in Ireland and Britain, and then it’s up the hanging valley and the Pine forests to the Ridge walk and onto the peak. From the top we will see the Mourne Mountains, the Irish Sea, and indeed the West coast of Wales, weather permitting. We return via an extra peak, Cloghernagh and down to Arts lough and back to the start. We will drop everybody to Dublin city centre to continue their own plans or travels. We will arrive back to Dublin about 6 pm.

Accommodation is based in Local high quality accommodation, generally in B^Bs, all en suite when possible.
