TRIP DETAILS

Starting in the Glenmalure  carpark  at the site of the memorial stone of the 1798 rebellion and meander up a forest road into Fraughan Glen a stunning glaciated hanging valley. We will walk through fabulous terrain with lots of colour purple and pink heathers and many wild flowers. As we go high we walk into the open moorland and the lower edges of the Blanket bog. We will then follow the Glen of Imaal ridge south to arrive to the start of Percy’s table and then head west to our summit Cairn and peak of Lugnaquilla at 931mts. Depending on weather we may have lunch here or not.

From the Cairn we head east, down another wide ridge where we will handrail the steep cliffs of the south prison to get some incredible views of valleys and peaks all around us. We will continue hiking on to the natural infinity pool called Arts lough and head back to our carpark via stepping stones or through the forest, again depending on the weather..
