Mountain Skills 2

This nationally accredited Mountain Skills 2 course will build on from MS1 and will cover the use of compass, route planning, route cards, night navigation and poor visibility, movement on steeper/broken ground, mountain rescue and emergency procedures. It will enable you to become even more self-sufficient on the hills. This is suitable for anyone with an interest in the outdoors, planning to advance their navigational skills. The course is very practical and brings you into a more wild and challenging environments for hiking. This is where we learn our skills in the mountains, in preparation for poor and nighttime conditions. This is an approved and registered Mountaineering Ireland course. Our Mountain Skills Courses can open your path as part of the official Mountain Leader Qualification.

Overview

  • Day 1 and 2 – will be spent all day on the hills.
  • On day 1 we will walk and navigate into darkness, not finishing till late at least 3 hours after dark. 
  • We cover some theory on both mornings, please bring along a notebook and pen. We will have some on line time 1.5 hours on the Wednesday prior to course
  • Private/ group courses are available nationwide, please contact us for details and rates with dates to suit you.
  • All our instructors are experienced, qualified, registered and insured.
  • 2 full days, day into night first day, you will be on the mountains in the dark on day 1 for about 2.5/3 hours.
  • Bring a packed lunch and drink for each day.
  • Our instructors are qualified in remote emergency care and wilderness first aid.
  • A general level of fitness Is required.
  •  Course Registration is required with M.I.
    • One registration with M.I. gives you access to all of the Mountain Skills Scheme courses. 
  • Registration is free for under 18s and €28 for adults. This fee contributes towards the administration and quality assurance of the Mountain Skills Scheme, gives you access to DLOG (a digital logbook for recording your activities) and material to help you develop as a hill walker.
  • In registering you will give consent for Mountaineering Ireland to hold your data and details of training completed and assessment outcome.
  • If you are already a member of Mountaineering Ireland and register for the scheme, details of your training and assessment will be automatically updated on your DLOG.
  • There is no requirement to join Mountaineering Ireland, but there is a cheaper membership offer of €35 at the point of registration, should you wish to join.
  • Successful completion of the Mountain Skills  can lead to on to the Mountain Leader award and is an access for Lowland leader award.
  • You must also register for the course separately with Mountaineering Ireland at present this is 28 euros lihere.re mountaineering.ie/awardreg/?aid=32.
  • Mountain Skills Training 2 is €155 payable to Bespoke treks and hikes

• Our instructors are qualified in remote emergency care and wilderness first aid.
• Maps and compasses provided if required. Let us know prior.
• Professional mountain leader with first aid certification and full insurance.
• Full and comprehensive course notes.
• We can supply map and compass for you with notice.

 

 

 

CANCELLATION POLICY
  • A cancellation fee of 100% applies for cancellations made less than 72hrs in advance, or in case of no-show.
  • A cancellation fee of 50% applies for cancellations made less than 10 Days in advance.
  • No cancellation fee applies for cancellations made 14 days or more days in advance.
  • Expected duration 2 days plus night time and a small pre course information chat.
