The Dublin Hills Trilogy Circuit

We will meet at the GAP carpark, close to Glencullen (2 euro coin is needed to exit carpark when finished). This is a lovely moderate hike, ideal for those wanting a longer day and some steeper ground that gives epic views of the City  and back into the Wicklow Mountains . We may even see the coastline of Snowdonia in Wales. We will also visit some ancient megalithic graves.

Our hike starts off road, as we take the twists and turns of the D.M.W. gently uphill to the Ballyedomduff forest . We will visit the Giants grave , this is no doubt, one of Ireland greatest Wedge tombs and a magnificent example from the Bronze Age, circa 1700 BC. Now we continue up through the thick Pine forest and eventually we arrive at the lookout point of Three Rock. The next section will continue down into Ticknock woods and onto the much less used trail to Kilmashogue mountain at 408m. Here we will see all of Dublin City and further north to the Mourne mountains. .The next leg takes us along the Wicklow way and to our high point of the day Two rock or Fairy castle at 536m. Once again the views from here are magnificent in all directions. This spot is not just a cairn it is an ancient Passage grave, Neolithic or Bronze age Tomb (circa 2500BC-2000BC).

From here we return back to the SE and the forest ,where we follow the trail back down to the GAP carpark and the end of a truly super hike.
